The story of Geilo Taxi

Geilo Taxisentral was founded 01.06.1948 under the name of "Geilo Bilsentral" of taxi owners Rudolf Engen, Syver Øen, Arnulf Narverud and Ragnvald Tragethon. Engen was a key first leader, while Anders Kvale was hired as manager. Central'd stop at Geilo Sport with living with "oljebua" and petrol station to the holder of Geilo Sport, Gunnar Hvammen.
After a few years was its own cab shield built, but until 1965 was the cab pit constantly on the move when the taxi owners did not come to an agreement with the municipality about the bus and taxi stands should be located. In the spring of 1965, there was however set up a phone box in Geilo Station, and autumn was working with NSB expanded to include room for drivers. This cooperation has to date been very good, and today, the central office and living room where it was previously a "Narvesen Kiosk".

In 1968, the installed radio telephones and telephone coated in taxis, and the original main transmitter of the brand Storno is still in operation.
In 1969, the center went to the procurement of sjukebil, and it was 2 years with quite turbulent compared to two other sjukebileiere. In 1971 took over Geilo Red Cross and the central car drivers Steinar gorge and Dagfinn Øen came with. Center undertook an ambulance communication and this lasted for some years. In 1972, license F-239 moved from Hovet to Otta, and a driver and later license holder Gulbrand Telnes moved to Otta.
In 1979 took center to the dissemination of Aikido Association emergency on Hardangervidda. This p.g.a the phone was automated. This system lasted for a while, but there were many who drew a sigh of relief when NAF Alarm Center took over.
In 1982, efforts to introduce taxameter started. Before you had run the tables. Taxameter was finally introduced for all in 1984.
In 1982, it also introduced the transport of wheelchair users in the municipal auspices. This was later on the TF-transportation, today we have the county. This represents a not insignificant part of the central missions. That year we were under the conveyor for Hallingdal Journal of schoolchildren running, and from 1988 we have had direct tendering and settlement with the county on this.
In 1989, we started in cooperation with Geilo Skiheiser an offer ski-taxi. This has been a lull in the late 90's when free bus has been offered, but has now started up again in 2003.

Already in 1990, began working with center Ål Taxi and Gol Taxi about collecting taxis for RTV-transport to hospitals in Buskerud and Oslo. Later came Hemsedal and Nesbyen of. Central had in working with Buskerud Taxi responsibility for this for years until Buskerud Taxis branch office of the Gol was opened in January 1998.

Geilo Taxis driving is today very extensive and we mention here some publicly paid driving:
- Social Security - requisition drive to hospitals, treatment cabins and specialists. Trips to the braces on Nesbyen.
- The county-TF-transport and school transpotation.
- Hol Kommune - school and municipal kindergartens run and trips to rehab.
In addition, we deal with a 30-century local businesses on credit and running a
wide range of different offers to customers.
Norwegian Taxi Association hands out the decorations for taxi owners with long and faithful service
in the taxi profession, and at Geilo Taxisentral have received these honors the character:
